⚠️ OpenAI fires back in Apple’s trade secrets lawsuit After Apple accused OpenAI of stealing confidential hardware secrets through former engineer Chang Liu, OpenAI released internal messages that appear to show Apple employees continuing to rely on Liu weeks after he had already left the company. According to the messages, Apple employees asked Liu to locate internal files, explain product design decisions, and answer technical questions. One employee even wrote: “Of course, I could ask several folks, but you are the best. Even if you don’t work here anymore.” OpenAI also claims Apple made another embarrassing mistake. Apple alleged it reached out to OpenAI before filing the lawsuit and received no response. But emails released by OpenAI suggest Apple’s outside lawyer accidentally thanked OpenAI’s General Counsel for a phone call that never actually happened before later apologizing for the mix-up. That said, these revelations don’t disprove Apple’s core allegations that trade secrets were taken. Instead, they shift some attention back to Apple, raising uncomfortable questions about its own security practices.
