🚀 SpaceX just announced something that sounds less like a factory and more like the infrastructure for a new civilization. In Grimes County, Texas, SpaceX plans to build Terafab, a semiconductor facility so enormous that it could become the largest chip factory ever built. We’re talking about 100+ million square feet of manufacturing space and an initial investment of roughly $16.8 billion. But the crazy part isn’t just the size. Terafab is designed to bring logic, memory, advanced packaging and testing together under one roof, producing the chips needed to power Tesla’s Optimus robots, autonomous Cybercabs and SpaceX’s next generation of orbital computing. The long-term target? 1 terawatt of compute hardware every year. Why build a chip factory this massive? Because Tesla and SpaceX are preparing for an absurd amount of AI compute demand, potentially exceeding what today’s global semiconductor industry can supply. So instead of waiting for the chip industry to catch up, they’re trying to build the missing capacity themselves. Tesla builds the robots. Tesla builds the cars. SpaceX builds the rockets and satellites. Terafab builds the silicon. And then SpaceX wants to take some of that compute into orbit. That creates an almost completely vertically integrated stack: Silicon → AI → Robots → Cars → Rockets → Satellites → Orbital compute. Most factories are built to serve the world as it exists today. Terafab is being designed around a world where humanity is producing machines at enormous scale, on Earth, in orbit, and eventually far beyond it. @aipost 🏴
