Researchers at the University of Cambridge have conducted the first human trial of a vaccine component created entirely by artificial intelligence. The vaccine features an AI-designed “super-antigen” aimed at training the immune system to respond to a wide range of coronaviruses. This approach does not focus on a single virus strain; instead, AI processed genetic material from multiple coronaviruses to design an antigen targeting the broader virus family, including current Covid variants and animal-origin coronaviruses with pandemic potential. The initial trial included 39 participants and focused on evaluating the component’s safety. Results showed a modest immune response but confirmed that an AI-designed antigen can be tested in humans. A larger study involving about 200 people is planned to further examine the immune response generated by the vaccine. 📰 @aipost
