Researchers have developed a new AI system that can analyze centrosomes—microscopic structures involved in cell division—across entire breast tumors. For more than a century, scientists recognized that abnormalities in centrosomes were associated with cancer, but the complexity and size of these structures made comprehensive studies challenging. The AI examined data from 330,000 centrosomes in breast cancer patients and identified that what was previously seen as a single abnormality actually consisted of two separate processes. One of these processes was linked to increased tumor aggressiveness and lower survival rates.
